I lean very heavily into character analysis, and tend to focus more on her character development and overall character. I often draw a lot of my own interpretation from personal headcanons , my own headcanoned history from prior to her experiences , and several pieces of poetry that I feel resonate with her. I do my best to stay as canonly accurate as possible.

Lara was born on February 14th, 1992, the only child of Lord Richard and Lady Amelia Croft. Lara's birth was difficult and both of her parents worried that they might lose her before she was born. However, Lara was ultimately delivered successfully, much to her parents' relief. Lara's early years were spent in the company of her doting parents. Her mother, who was an artist, worked from home and spent much of her time with her daughter, playing with her and giving her piano lessons.Lady Croft died in a plane crash when Lara was very young. Her death inspired Lord Croft's obsession with finding the key to immortality, which in turn resulted in him becoming somewhat neglectful of Lara. Lara began to act out in order to get attention, even locking the family butler Winston in the large walk-in freezer.
One of Lara's earliest memories was her fifth birthday, when her father, Winston, and the rest of the staff put a lot of preparation into a treasure hunt to keep her entertained.Lara found solace in books, which fueled a lust for adventure. Though her father would occasionally take her along on his expeditions, he was often too busy to pay attention to his daughter. On one such trip, Lara was working on a small patch late one night, and uncovered a jade trinket. Overcome with joy, Lara rushed to her father to show him, still wearing her penguin print pajamas, though he was taking an important phone call and told her to wait. Too excited to wait, Lara rushed to Conrad Roth to show him the trinket. Roth was more than happy to dote on Lara, and seemed genuinely impressed by her find. He used one of his shoelaces to turn the pendant into a necklace for her. She continued to wear the pendant as a mark of pride.Lara was an intelligent child, and early on was placed in classes with students a year older to compensate. Nevertheless, Lara was often bored at school, which led to her getting in trouble for daydreaming and not paying attention in class. She often asked her father to take her with him when he went on digs, to alleviate her boredom.
Lara didn't relate to other girls very well, which Winston theorized could be the result of Lara not having any female role models, as she spent the majority of her time with her father. Upon Winston's suggestion, Lara was introduced to her father's girlfriend, Ana.Lord Croft's obsession with discovering the secrets of immortality began to cause strain between Lara and her father. This strain came to a breaking point when Lara confronted him after overhearing her father become enraged on a phone call, and he insisted that one day she would later understand. Lara yelled at him that she didn't want to understand, and just wanted him to be her father again before storming off. Later, the sound of a gunshot brought her to her father's study, where she found him having apparently taken his own life, leaving Lara an orphan, and her last encounter with her father having been a fight.Lara was left in the care of Roth, with whom she formed a surrogate father-daughter relationship. Roth's job kept him away for extended periods of time, leaving Lara to be alone for much of her adolescence. As a result, Lara became quite introverted.When the time came for Lara to attend university, she decided that she wanted to earn her own way and would apply to the University College London (UCL). This decision required her to pay her tuition and rent by working multiple jobs. Although this was a tougher choice, it helped Lara become more grounded, down-to-earth, and level-headed than she might otherwise have been.
Shortly after starting university, Lara met Samantha Nishimura. Lara was initially taken aback by Sam's outgoing personality, though she soon became her best friend. It was because of Sam's free spirit and a wild streak that Lara was able to experience much more of London than just the universities and museums that she loved so much, and started coming out of her shell and making more friends.This continues into the game series canon events of Tomb Raider 2013 - Legend of Lara Croft and beyond. CARING LITTLE FOR her aristocratic background , Lara is someone who prefers to be down-to-earth and in the moment . She is not as social as her parents had been - preferring the company of books rather than people , and tended to be rather introverted - especially in her younger years. She is a strong bibliophile , and is extremely well read, having a particular love for ancient legends and adventures, though she has a strong passion for archaeological and historic books ; earning a degree in the subject . Lara is nothing short of obsessive over her work, displaying a strong knowledge about world cultures and time periods, shown in her ability to identify many different kinds of relics.EMPATHETIC , Lara holds a great deal of care for the natural world , and for the lives of others - having barely killed before her ordeal throughout Yamatai . After she made her first kill against another , Lara was emotionally shaken. After Yamatai , she had developed more violent tendencies , though works to keep it in check . After the events, Lara is far more willing to defend herself, to the point where she actively hunted down several of the Trinity soldiers.HARDENED by her experiences , Lara is an incredibly skilled survivalist , and has a grit and a perseverance that nobody else can match. She is willing to do anything to help someone else , and constantly keeps moving even through intense fear , and throughout injury. She can tend to be reckless , and can be arrogant about her own capability , often believing that she can handle anything and everything. This also applies to her tendency to have tunnel vision , and not particularly pay attention to the bigger picture. Later timeline Lara's morals are grayer than ever , and she's not opposed to hitting-and-running her enemies, even going as far as to destroy their moral by picking them off and leaving them hanging in the trees for their teammates to find. At this time, she has no qualms about what she has to do in order to do what she must. Lara has issues with not inherently being opposed to violence , and she has been noted to fight off people almost with a smile on her expression , and she can react very aggressively if her friends are threatened, and has a great capability for grudges. She enjoys it a lot more than she'd inherently admit to herself, and it's something she greatly grapples with. She's far more similar to the people she fights than she inherently realizes, as she's grown into someone who has kill without discretion and will do whatever is necessary to achieve her goals .ASSERTIVE , Lara developed a stronger confidence after Yamatai , unlike her initial aloof and hidden timid nature prior to the events. She is rather skeptical of magic and the supernatural , even still after Yamatai , and doesn’t accept that magic could be possible .VALUING THOSE SHE’S CLOSE TO , Lara is capable of great affection and empathy, caring for those close to her - and often being incredibly protective over them. She suffers from strong survivor’s guilt , often enduring hallucinations , nightmares and flashbacks after the events of Yamatai, most of them resulting from those she saw die to help her - and of Himiko . She tends to be restless most of the time , often wringing her hands and tapping her feet in order to assuage them .STRENGTHS && WEAKNESSES
✧﹒ STRENGTHS:Lara is someone at the peak of the human condition - having the strength, speed, acrobatic prowess, stamina, reflexes, coordination and durability that are greater than even Olympic-level athletes , able to push herself for hours at a time . Along with this , she has very keen senses, to the point where she was even capable of fighting blindfolded, and serves her well when it comes to hunting both animals and enemies . She also possesses an extremely high pain tolerance , her tolerance to both fatigue and physical trauma being far higher than most people - even going as far as learning ancient meditation techniques. Combining this with her tenacity, she has a strong resistance to brutal ordeals , especially when it came to a brief stint of torture .She is an incredibly skilled archer , taking it up during her schooldays , and joining an archery club - along with studying ancient Byzantine archery techniques. This goes as far to her being able to hit multiple targets simultaneously, and fire multiple arrows in a short window of time . Along with this, she has decent martial arts skills , and possesses a heavy swing as according to another . Her style closely resembles kickboxing , along with grappling and knife fighting resulting from kali and brazilian jiu-jitsu - as well as limited fencing capability . Lara was taught how to shoot a firearm from Roth , refining her skills at a local club , possessing a strong capability for accuracy.Taking gymnastics when she was younger , Lara is very acrobatic and has great capability to traverse areas inaccessible to the average human - able to scramble up walls , swing on banners, climb ropes and makeshift ziplines with little hesitation. She has been a talented free runner since youth , able to scale walls and jump long distances easily .Her greatest strength lies in her survivability , adept at various survival techniques in various environments. She is able to collect food and water from tough places, along with making shelters from very limited materials - and she is quite adept when it comes to hunting , along with being able to distinguish different kinds of both medicinal , harmful , and edible plants ; able to formulate medicines and poisons from plants .Relying on stealth, Lara is adept when it comes to hit and run techniques, along with makeshift traps. Lara is skilled at picking off entire groups of soldiers with little difficulty despite her very little formal training , and regularly uses vegetation and foliage to disguise herself , using the natural world as cover.Spending years studying archaeology , Lara is easily able to identify buildings and artifacts to their time period from nothing more than what she can see . Her brilliance is not limited to her field of study , possessing a memory capable of remembering small details from years ago. Lara is also particularly adept when it comes to maritime archaeology, salvage diving, Asian archaeology, art history, and Russian religions. She is capable of harvesting metals within caves and other locations.Lara knows how to craft several chemical products on the fly - including medicinal salves from plants, fungi-based poisons, insect poisons, hallucinogenic drugs, nerve gasses, and mastered the instructions for greek fire. She has limited knowledge of zoology and good awareness of the creatures she uncovers.Her attention to detail is near unmatched , capable of picking out small details in her surroundings, even going as far to be able to spot an empty cylinder in a revolver. She has great deductive skills, able to tell other’s intentions , and make connections between places others may not be able to. She has capability when it comes to communications devices, able to operate a transmitter, boost a signal, able to disable communications outposts and be able to change channels.She has a strong sense of direction , and can direct herself on the right path with minimal information. She has studied cartography and orienteering, able to find hidden areas.
Lara can navigate by the stars, aware of the axial precession and its effects on where stars appear. She is able to navigate several cave systems with limited lighting, able to rappel into those same systems and find her way out. Lara is also an expert climber, able to traverse rock and ice easily, along with her expertise when it comes to the ice-axe, and fully knows how to anchor her own line and tie herself off. Lara is SCUBA-certified and a capable swimmer.Possessing some experience in first aid, Lara was able to treat Roth’s mauled leg herself, and was able to tend to her own wounds throughout several different locations. She is incredibly resourceful, able to use salvage gathered throughout different locations to fix her own gear - along with using her environment to her advantage. She is capable of making her own weapons, including makeshift explosives. A poor actor, though capable of very limited good stints where she was able to convince enemies of her state .A strong thief, Lara is particularly skilled when it comes to infiltration and breaking into places, operating outside laws to accomplish her goals. She is a skilled pickpocket, and skilled when it comes to picking locks.She is a strong escape artist and is able to figure out how to get herself out of locations several times, using nothing but what was in her vicinity. A competent motorcyclist, Lara has excellent control of vehicles, and is able to perform stunts and jumps with different vehicles - skilled in evasive driving maneuvers. She can also pilot a helicopter and a plane when it comes to it.✧﹒WEAKNESSESLara often believes that she can handle anything and everything due to her experience. She often assumes that she is immune to the allure of power , and she considers herself morally and physically superior to several others during the course of the series.She also tends to possess a strong inability to look at the bigger picture, and has tunnel vision, which often places others in harm’s way. She often doesn’t heed warnings, which is often to her own detriment. She is stubborn, and doesn’t change her mind or her ideals easily.Lara is not always a good team player, and far prefers working on her own, often ignoring the advice of others in order to go her own way. She is haunted by her father’s legacy, and had strong issues with it, especially as her father neglected her for most of her life in order to pursue his research.She is not particularly strong when it comes to melee combat, often being the lesser advantaged in such a situation - her prowess lies in her long-ranged capability. Along with this , she has mild hearing loss from constant exposure to situations such as close-proximity explosions .Lara tends to be incredibly reckless, without thinking twice she will put her life and the lives of those around her at risk by involving herself in situations she is not always particularly equipped for, traversing dangerous terrain, trapped areas, and engaging many different enemies at once. Her pursuit of ancient relics and the truth behind her parent’s disappearances often cause her to lose sight of the immediate danger that her actions pose, often ignoring warnings and pushing forward despite nearly impossible odds of survival.FAMILY && RELATIONS
